The temple is traditionally attributed to Paramara ruler Raja Bhoj and dates to approximately the 11th–12th century. The Madhya Pradesh government’s Bhopal district tourism information describes it as an approximately 1,000-year-old temple and notes its association with Raja Bhoj.
Its most famous feature is the enormous Shiva Lingam carved from a single stone. The district government describes the lingam as approximately 7.5 feet high, with a circumference of about 17.8 feet.
The temple itself was never fully completed, which makes its massive unfinished architectural elements particularly distinctive.
