Sair Sapata is a tourism and entertainment complex on the banks of Bhopal’s Upper Lake (Bada Talaab), at Sewaniya Guar, Prempura, Bhadbhada-Van Vihar Road. Developed by the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC), it broke ground with a bhumi pujan on 27 May 2008 and took roughly three years to complete, at a cost of about ₹103.7 million (US$1.2 million), before being inaugurated on 29 September 2011 by then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Spread across 24.56 acres, it sits somewhere between a simple play park and a full amusement park, offering a genuinely wide mix of attractions: a 183-metre suspension bridge (built with RCC deck slabs in the style of Rishikesh’s Lakshman Jhula, and reportedly the first pedestrian bridge of its kind in India), a synchronised musical fountain with light and music shows, a two-acre children’s play area with slides and swings, a toy train that circles the complex, a mini zoo, boating (including pedal boats, speed boats and even a luxury cruise), and adventure activities like forest/jungle hiking, zorbing and car dashing. Recreational sports facilities (volleyball, badminton) and food stalls, including an MP Tourism restaurant, round out the offering. It has become one of Bhopal’s most popular weekend hangouts, especially for local families and youth.
